Your Baby's Poop--How do You Know What's Healthy?
When my first born was a baby, I changed his diaper one day to find an absolutely white poop. Dumbfounded, I looked through my two reference guides--the essential "What to Expect the First Year" and the Sears' "The Baby Book: Everything You Need to Know About Your Baby from Birth to Age Two" but couldn't find anything on white poop. The next bowel movement he had was normal, so I chalked (no pun intended) it up to "one more weird thing you encounter as a new mom" and moved on. Too bad I didn't have the article I came across today--The Colors of the Infant Bowel Movement Rainbow--a funny, yet very informative
story from a site called, The Essential Infant Resource for Moms. Letting us moms in on facts such as, "Infant bowel movements can change quickly, so don't be surprised if what was green yesterday is yellow today," or that a white poop, "may be an indicator that the liver is not producing enough bile to digest the food;" you'll walk away becoming the much more smarter person. On poop anyways. To become informed on what your baby's poop means (and when to tell if you should call the pediatrician) click here to read the article.
